Ringmer Community Orchard

Ringmer Community Orchard The Ringmer Community Orchard is a project led by people in the village to establish a fruit orchard for local use, serving as a model to combat climate change and to be an educational resource for schools. Arising from the Ringmer Community Action Plan, the orchard was planted in December 2005 and has developed into a plot of over 50 traditional fruit trees on an acre of land kindly donated by a farmer and managed organically by the community.

The orchard is used for teaching courses to increase people’s skills in fruit tree management, to support students at Ringmer Community College completing Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and for workshops for local primary schools. Community events are held for people to come and enjoy the orchard and to help with looking after the trees. Recent improvements include a community composting area, a wildflower border and native hedging on the northern bank at the site.

A Schools' Activity Pack is available with activities at the Orchard, linking aspects of growing fruit to school work from primary through to college age.
