Lewes Farmers Market Producer Criteria

The Lewes Farmers Market is a not for profit social enterprise. The Market was established in 1998 as a way to support small scale local farming and food businesses that use sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods.

Stallholders need to have an involvement or close understanding of the production process, we do not allow producers to buy in goods for sale. Products for sale on a stall must be produced by the stall holder.

One of the key aims of the Market is to enable people to find out more about the food they buy.  Producers are able to meet and talk to their customers and people shopping are able to ask questions about how the food has been prepared, grown or reared.  Shopping at the market will reduce food miles across Sussex.

We have a detailed set of criteria covering the different products carry out visits to food businesses and farms so that we can get a better understanding of production methods and the issues that producers face. Download our full Produce Criteria here.
