Crop Swap
PDF Print E-mail

The whole Pickled event really came about as an extension of an idea about having a local crop swap to make the most of any local produce gluts Lewes residents might have.

Some towns organise themselves into  growing specific crops to ensure there is a wide range of produce available for the whole community. We’re not quite suggesting that yet, but it would be great to think that our idea might have some relevance in the local food sustainability calendar so, if you do have kilos of potatoes, onions or turnips and you would like to add a little variety to your store cupboard, why not register to bring your produce to Pickled and discover what your neighbours have been up to in their gardens or allotments this year.

A fun new event from Common Cause, ‘Pickled’ celebrated the art of food preservation--storing, bottling, pickling, drying--and featured the town's first official ‘Crop Swap’ as part of the Lewes OctoberFeast.
